Retro Chic MK1 With A Modern Twist

As we waded through the mass of incredible cars at the Edition 38 show, one little Volkswagen really stood out from the crowd. With perfect OEM brightwork, a crisp paint job and a host of old-school touches, this Derby spoke to the purists in all of us.

Upon further inspection, the car featured a modern, multi-throttle fueling system and an Air Lift Performance air suspension. Those tell-tale red camber plates completely gave it away, hiding under those white strut towers.

Inside the car the “purist” theme continued, featuring a factory corduroy cloth interior and MK1 Scirocco steering wheel, all working in strange harmony with a CAE Ultrashifter and Tilton pedal box.

The MK1 Polo Derby is very similar to the MK1 Golf, so he was able to adapt the Air Lift Performance VW MK1 Golf threaded body air suspension kit to suit his build. To keep the fully painted and polished underside of the car in show-winning condition, the owner opted for Air Lift Performance’s AutoPilot V2 air management system.

The result is a low-slung stance and complete practicality. The mix of subtle colours and finishes had us pouring over the details of this car for a long time, making it one of the absolute favourites from the show this year!
