Sometimes simplicity can be a difficult attribute to build into your project but Steven Doe’s super clean E21 certainly hits the mark.

Parked up on the Meguiar’s stand at Players Classic we got a closer look.

The key to this project has been the choice of base car. Doey searched high and low to find the absolute cleanest E21 money could buy, and it looks like he has succeeded. The original paint defies the age of the car, and at 32 years old it looked great with polished brightwork and wheels.

Inside, Doey has completely overhauled the interior, but in such a subtle way you might have missed it. He’s taken a pair of popular ‘RS Turbo’ Recaro seats and re-trimmed the interior around them. The seats, door cards and custom made carpets work to create a classy, neutral setting to sit in.

The car sits on a custom fabricated bag setup, built by Luke at Andy Robinson Racecars.  Luke used Air Lift universal products to create the perfect drop and ride characteristics.

“The E21 has the steering arms and hub carrier built into the upright, so you need to fabricate your own upright to suit an air setup. The Air Lift parts make it a breeze and we had the car on the deck in no time” said Luke.

A floating tank and custom boot install round up the build, finished in the same dark fabrics as the interior. It’s a car we saw again recently at VW Days and looks great rolling, nice one Doey!
