We have all been outside on a night with no moon, no stars, or lights for miles and miles…. You know the kind of night, it is so black outside you cannot see your hand in front of your face. Well I have stumbled on a ride that makes that kind of black look just plain silly. I came across Bryan’s 2011 SS/RS on Camaro5 forum and was immediately stopped in my tracks, between the ground crushing stance and the overall attitude of the car, I had to find out more!
Ford built an awesome car when they designed the S-197 Mustang…. Carroll Shelby refined it……. Our buddy Nate made his U-N-B-E-L-I-E-V-A-B-L-E!!!!! As if the Shelby GT 500 was not enough, Nate decided to go with the Air Lift Performance suspension for dramatically improved performance handling characteristics and the ability of getting in and out of his driveway without scraping his prized ride.
This snake slithers on 20 inch Alcoa’s wrapped in Nitto rubber, 255/35/20 up front and 275/35/20 in the rear. Power has been enhanced by a 2.3L TVS supercharger with a 2.6″ pulley, Afco dual fan heat exchanger, MHR Tank, a full Shelby KR exhaust and sports a VMP tune. If you ever thought air suspension was not intended to handle power, Nate’s venomous Shelby blows that theory right out of the water.

This past weekend, Air Lift Company competed in the 2011 Motorstate Challenge (www.motorstatechallenge.com). This event pits drivers of high horsepower Pro-Touring type muscle cars and late model modified machines against each other in a “fastest lap” competition on the tricky Gingerman Raceway (www.gingermanraceway.com) in South Haven, MI. Air Lift was eligible for a special class of participating vendors that included 19 different driver/car combinations, amongst a total field of 79 competition cars.
The choice of weapon for this battle was Air Lift’s 2005 Mustang GT equipped with their Performance Air Suspension kit (Part #95779). While severely underpowered against the average competitor at only 300HP, the handling capability of the car and the driving experience of Engineering Project Manager, Brian Vinson, proved a formidable combination!
The results have just been posted and Air Lift finished 4th in the Vendor class and had the 9th fastest lap of the entire field. This was by far the best finishing air suspension equipped car of several in the event by several seconds. Vinson had this to say about the day: “I am thrilled with our result today. With this stock engine car we were able to run times faster than a lot of the big boys because our car had perfect handling balance and could corner much faster in the twisty sections.
We came to the event to prove the point that our air suspension can deliver great performance. I think we succeeded in delivering that message.” Air Lift wishes to thank the staff of Motorstate Distributing for putting on an excellent event.
